Esfand was born from a question Rouzbeh had been pursuing since his conservatory years:

“To what extent can Iranian folk music fuse with electronic dance music?”

That research led him deep into the rituals and regional traditions of Iran; Zār ceremonies, Bakhtiari melodies and rituals, Qashqai nomadic music, composing tracks each rooted in a specific tradition, eventually taking shape as the album Hélé.

From 2020 to 2025, Esfand was a duo with New Zealand-born musician and producer Patrick Stewart, a fellow graduate of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Together they released the EP Hélé and the LP Piltan, touring across Europe. Since late 2025, Esfand continues as Rouzbeh's solo project, a space where his ongoing exploration of Iranian folk, ritual music, and electronic production keeps evolving.
